A tadpole doesn’t know it’s gonna grow bigger. It just swims and figures limbs are for frogs.
Less than four years ago, I took my first yoga class . At that time, my tadpole self simply viewed yoga as a form of exercise. Little did I know I was about to sprout limbs and that yoga would eventually flow into every corner of my life.
As my love for yoga grew, so did my desire to share it with others. In May of 2017, I was offered the opportunity to teach yoga, and I have not looked back. Over the course of the following year, I completed four yoga teacher trainings and became certified in yin, vinyasa, and prenatal yoga.
I took a leap of faith during the autumn months of 2017, and I purchased yoga blocks, bolsters, and blankets. With open arms, Cross Fit West Plains welcomed me to their space, and ByrdByByrd Yoga was born. I taught my classes in a fun, funky, lofted space inside their warehouse-style building. Within a few months, I outgrew the tiny studio, so I made plans for a new space. In April of 2018, my full-size yoga studio opened at its current location at the Imperial Center in West Plains.
My journey has given me exciting and valuable experiences that have changed my life. Through yoga, I have cultivated peace, acceptance, mindfulness, and creativity within myself. Through my studio, I have connected with others and am continually reminded that we are all part of something larger. I am thankful for each and every person who has shared a class with me and helped co-create the experience that is ByrdByByrd Yoga.
The physical benefits of yoga abound. Yoga improves posture, protects the spine, and reduces breakdown in joints and cartilage. Yoga practice increases muscle strength and enhances muscle tone. It lowers blood pressure, reduces cortisol levels, and promotes circulatory health. Yoga improves flexibility, supports connective tissues, and often reduces pain in the body. It also results in improved proprioception (the ability to feel where your body is in space) and balance.
The mental and emotional benefits of yoga are also many. Yoga soothes tension and anxiety in the mind and in the body. Yoga practice encourages self care, increases self esteem, and cultivates better body image. Yoga provides a path to presence, mindfulness, and inner peace.
I hope the practice of yoga will open up a whole new world for you like it has for me. Yoga can help you make changes in your life through the development of inner strength. Start today to discover the essence of who you are!
